General English

Our General English course focuses on developing everyday communication skills in English. From the very first lessons, students begin speaking — no memorisation, no translation. Discussions, debates, games and speaking tasks are used in every class.

Our centre offers a rich library and a Conversation Café where students can practise outside of scheduled classes. The goal is to create an authentic English-speaking environment so students absorb the language much faster.

  • Communicative approach — speaking from lesson one
  • Small groups for maximum practice time
  • Qualified, certified teachers
  • Levels from complete beginner (A1) to advanced (C2)

Who this course is for

General English is for anyone who needs English in everyday life, whatever your age and whatever your starting point.

  • Complete beginners (A0–A1) — if you have never studied English, we start from the alphabet and the first sentences.
  • People who studied at school but cannot speak — the grammar is there, the words do not come out. This is the most common case in our groups.
  • Travellers and people relocating — airport, hotel, doctor, bank: real situations rather than textbook topics.
  • University applicants — a solid general base comes before academic English.
  • People who need English at work — from B1 you can move on to Professional English.

From A1 to C2: your level path

Teaching follows the CEFR scale. Each level ends with a concrete set of skills:

  • A1 — introductions, talking about yourself, simple questions and answers, everyday phrases.
  • A2 — shops, taxis, restaurants, a short phone call; past and future tenses.
  • B1 — independent user: fluent conversation on familiar topics, simple work emails, explaining your point of view.
  • B2 — complex texts, working English, discussion and debate, comfortable conversation with a native speaker.
  • C1 — nuance, register, academic and professional settings.
  • C2 — near-native command.

From zero to B1 usually takes 10–12 months with 2 lessons a week plus daily practice at home; another 8–12 months takes you to B2. The exact pace depends on the format and on how much you practise. More on levels: CEFR language levels explained.

What a lesson looks like

The core rule of the Inlingua method, in use worldwide since 1968: the lesson is in English from the first minute. No translation, and no Azerbaijani or Russian in the classroom.

  • Minimum theory, maximum practice — you hear it and repeat it first, then the rule makes sense.
  • The teacher works as a coach: for most of the lesson you are the one speaking.
  • Discussions, debates, games and role-play tasks — authentic dialogue situations.
  • Progress and speech accuracy are monitored continuously, with an assessment at the end of each level.
  • After class, the library and the conversation cafe at our centre are there for live practice.

FAQ

Do I need any English to start the General English course?

No. The course starts from complete zero (A0) and runs to C2. Which group you join is decided by the free placement test — a short conversation on WhatsApp or at our office, with no obligation.

How long before I can speak freely?

From zero to B1, fluent conversation on familiar topics, usually takes 10–12 months with 2 lessons a week plus daily practice at home. B2, the level used at work, takes another 8–12 months.

Are the lessons entirely in English?

Yes. In the Inlingua method the lesson is in English from the first minute and translation is not used. The teacher grades their language to your level, so even a beginner group stays comprehensible.

Can I study online?

Yes. Any level can be taken online or at the centre. Online groups use the same Inlingua course books and the same teachers; only the format changes.

Should I choose a group, a mini-group or one-to-one?

All three are available. A group is better for speaking practice and motivation, one-to-one for speed and a narrow goal. We pick the format together during the free placement test.

How much does the course cost?

The price depends on the level, the format (group or individual) and the intensity. For an exact figure message us on WhatsApp and we will send the full price list straight away. The placement test is free.
