Professional English
Designed for professionals across industries — law, medicine, banking & finance, business, oil & gas, IT and more. The focus is on job-specific vocabulary and the ability to discuss key professional topics in English.
Students practise industry-specific vocabulary and learn to conduct meetings, write professional emails, make presentations and hold negotiations entirely in English.
- Tailored to your industry and job role
- Business writing: emails, reports, proposals
- Meeting, negotiation and presentation skills
- Flexible scheduling for working professionals
Who this course is for
Professional English is for specialists who already work in English or are preparing to. The entry level is B1: you can hold an everyday conversation, and now you need the language of your industry.
- Law — contracts, correspondence, client meetings.
- Banking and finance — reporting, presentations, negotiations with international partners.
- Oil and gas — sector terminology, safety briefings, working with contractors.
- IT — technical documentation, stand-ups, client calls.
- Medicine — professional literature, international conferences, talking to colleagues.
- Business and sales — proposals, negotiations, pitching to a client.
If your level is still below B1, the base is better built on the General English course — we confirm this during the free placement test.
From B1 to C2: your level path
- B1 — core vocabulary of your field, simple business correspondence, a short phone call.
- B2 — stating and defending a position in a meeting, writing a report, delivering a presentation; this is the level employers ask for most often.
- C1 — running negotiations, handling complex contractual text, controlling nuance and register.
- C2 — working in an international team on equal terms with a native speaker.
Moving from B1 to B2 takes on average 8–12 months with 2 lessons a week plus daily practice. A breakdown of the levels: CEFR language levels explained.
What a lesson looks like
The method is the same — the Inlingua method, English from the first minute, no translation — but the situations come out of your working day.
- Role-play tasks: chairing a meeting, a client call, a job interview, a price negotiation.
- Business writing: emails, reports, proposals, meeting minutes.
- Presentation skills — structure, signposting, the question-and-answer section.
- Sector vocabulary is practised in live context every lesson rather than memorised as a list.
- Accuracy is monitored continuously: the teacher gives individual feedback on both terminology and grammar.
The materials you work with
The core books are designed in Bern and published in Switzerland by the Inlingua Bern publishing house exclusively for schools in the association. The course includes:

What level do I need to start Professional English?
The recommended entry point is B1. If your level is lower, we build the base on the General English course first. The exact level is set by the free placement test.
Does the course cover my industry?
The programme is adapted to your sector and role — law, banking and finance, oil and gas, IT, medicine, business and sales. During the placement test we ask about your working context and choose the vocabulary blocks accordingly.
Can we work on my real work documents?
Yes. Lessons use genuine tasks: the email you have to send, the presentation you are preparing, the meeting you are about to chair. You do not have to share confidential documents — describing the situation in general terms is enough.
Can the schedule fit around my job?
Yes. The course runs as a group, a mini-group or one-to-one, at the centre or online, and the schedule for working professionals is built flexibly. Online groups use the same materials and the same teachers.
How long does it take to reach B2?
Moving from B1 to B2 takes on average 8–12 months with 2 lessons a week plus daily practice at home. One-to-one lessons and higher intensity shorten that.
How much does the course cost?
The price depends on level, format and intensity. Message us on WhatsApp and we will send the full price list straight away. The placement test is free and carries no obligation.
