We offer structured preparation for internationally recognised English language examinations, covering all four skills: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking.

  • IELTS (Academic & General)
  • Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE / B2 First)
  • Cambridge Advanced (CAE / C1 Advanced)
  • Timed practice tests under exam conditions
  • Personal feedback on Writing and Speaking

Who this course is for

Exam preparation is for people with a specific score in mind. This is not general English: the work is on exam format, time management and a strategy for each section.

  • Applying to a university abroad — IELTS Academic or a Cambridge certificate is required.
  • Migration and visa applications — IELTS General Training.
  • An employer asking for a certificate — B2 First (FCE) or C1 Advanced (CAE) is often enough.
  • Anyone wanting their level formally confirmed — Cambridge certificates do not expire.

The recommended entry level is B1. If your level is lower, we build the base on the General English course first — we confirm this during the free placement test.

Which exams, and which level

  • IELTS Academic — university admission, academic texts and describing data.
  • IELTS General Training — work and migration, everyday and business correspondence.
  • Cambridge B2 First (FCE) — formal confirmation of level B2.
  • Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE) — C1 for academic and professional settings.

The minimum most universities and employers ask for is B2; high target scores need C1. How long preparation takes depends on the distance between your current level and your goal: closing a level gap usually takes a few months, while learning the format itself takes considerably less. What a lesson looks like

Preparation covers all four skills — reading, writing, listening, speaking — and each is practised in exam format.

  • A strategy for every section: recognising task types, dividing your time, the usual traps.
  • Timed mock tests under exam conditions — real time limit, real answer sheet.
  • Individual feedback on writing: every essay is marked against the assessment criteria.
  • Individual feedback on speaking: answer structure, fluency, lexical range, pronunciation.
  • Lessons run on the Inlingua method, entirely in English.

The materials you work with

Inlingua Bern textbooks organised by level are used alongside exam-format practice material:

  • textbooks by level and assessment materials;
  • a bank of exam-format tasks and full mock tests;
  • audio and video resources — a range of accents for the listening section;
  • access to the online learning platform.

Format, schedule and price

Preparation runs as a group, a mini-group or one-to-one, at the centre or online. One-to-one gets you there faster when the exam date is close.

Before you start there is a free placement test: we establish your current level, your target score and your exam date, and build a realistic plan. The course price depends on level, format and intensity — message us on WhatsApp and we will send the full price list. The exam fee itself is set by the test centres, not by us.

FAQ

Which exam should I choose — IELTS or Cambridge?

It depends on your goal. Universities and visa applications usually ask for IELTS; for a permanent formal record of your level, Cambridge B2 First or C1 Advanced is more convenient. Check the requirement on the receiving institution site — we can look at it together during the placement test.

What level do I need to start exam preparation?

The recommended entry point is B1. Below that, exam strategy does not help, because the obstacle is the language itself rather than the format — in that case we build the base on the General English course first.

How long does preparation take?

It depends on the gap between your current level and your target score. If your level already fits and only the format is new, this is weeks rather than months; if you need to climb a full CEFR level, plan for several months.

Are mock tests run under real exam conditions?

Yes. Mock tests are timed with the real limit, and for writing and speaking every student gets individual feedback against the assessment criteria.

How much does the IELTS exam itself cost?

The exam fee is set by the test centres and is not part of the course price. Information on Baku centres and their official fees is collected in our blog: the IELTS in Baku 2026 article.

Can I prepare online?

Yes. Preparation runs online or at the centre — the same materials, the same teachers, the same mock tests. When the exam date is close, one-to-one online is the most flexible option.
