Which book should you use to learn Russian? Here are the 8 that work — grammar, vocabulary, reading, and kids' books — with where to buy in Baku and which PDFs are free.
In an age of smartphones, why still buy books to learn Russian? Two reasons apps can't replace: systematic grammar presentation and long-form reading that trains the brain. Here are the 8 books we use with Inlingua Baku students every day — plus where to buy them in Baku and which PDFs are legally free.
Grammar books

How to actually use a textbook
- Don't read cover to cover. Spend 3 days on lesson 1, 3 days on lesson 2, 3 days on lesson 3 — that's 30 min/day.
- Don't memorise grammar tables. Write 10 sentences that use the rule instead.
- Read aloud every exercise. Pair with audio (many on YouTube).
- Pair each lesson with a teacher right after. You can't find your own mistakes.
Book + Inlingua course = results
Inlingua Baku students cover one chapter of Doroga v Rossiyu every 2 weeks and then use that grammar in live class conversation. A2 in 6 months, B1 in 12. The book delivers the rules; the class delivers fluency.
